My most anticipated drama of the season has finally premiered. Initially, my only reason to watch this show was for Eita and Hikari Mitsushima. I’m not familiar with Tsumabuki Satoshi’s works so I’m curious how he’ll lead this drama. Other additional cast include people like Aoi Yu and Nagasawa Masami (she’s not the most versatile actress out there but her image looks different here so I hope she’ll be able to change my mind about her acting). Also, not forgetting the young but talented Ai Hashimoto. With this powerful cast, there’s just no way I’m not watching this.
So how does the first episode fare? Let’s have a brief recap.
The premier opens with an intro song and various black and white pictures of the cast mixed with strangers. After that, you’re immediately brought into the house where 4 siblings are eating breakfast. Very rowdy and noisy, non-stop chatter especially among Asahi (eldest son) and Haru (3rd son). The other two, Hikari (only daughter) and Tadashi (youngest son) look as their older brothers quarrel or rather, chatting. For us, they may look like they’re quarreling, but I think this is their everyday conversation. That’s how lively this household is.
From the first scene, we know Asahi is trying to persuade Hikari to try out an omiai (arranged marriage), which to Hikari’s frustration at the end, tells him that she already has someone in mind. But she doesn’t disclose who, leaving her brothers dumbfounded. We also know Asashi, as the eldest son, is working very hard to support his siblings. He works as a construction worker and
probably has a thing for the bentou girl (Aoi Yu). *scratch that, they are together.
Lol so actually they share the same interest – wrestling.
So Asahi’s girlfriend, Azusa finds herself 3-months pregnant with his kid.
“What should we do?” – Azusa
“Even if you ask me, I..” – Asahi (shocked speechless)
“It doesn’t have to be right away…let’s go back.” – Azusa
I love this shot both Asashi’s expression and Azusa walking away, probably disappointed with his indecisive reply.
We moved to Hikari next. She works as a nurse at NICU. Asahi finds the doctor who works together with Hikari for some advice about Azusa’s pregnancy.
When Shinjo (doctor) asks him about Azusa, all Asahi can describe is her character but nothing about her family background.
“Who exactly do you actually want to get married with?”
Tadashi should have a haircut, seriously.
So he has someone he likes in cram school, a girl named Kazumi.
Shall we go for karaoke next time? – Kazumi
Lol at Tadashi’s expression.
Asahi asks Haru to help him watch Azusa – to check her background etc…
Who’s the mystery guy Hikari is with?
Back at the house, Haru reports to Asahi about his findings. The secret gets blown and now everyone knows about Asahi’s girlfriend.
Apparently, Azusa works at the cabaret after her bentou work.
Tadashi is fooled into going to a hotel by Kazumi LOL
I laughed here.
Just when I was wondering where is Eita!
So he probably committed some crime and just been released.
“Sato Satoru-san? You killed my mother, didn’t you?”
Asahi and Azusa argued when Azusa asked him why he keeps avoiding her. When Asashi brought up about her working at cabaret club, she finally tells him about the debt she has to pay.
Okay, this seals it.
Tadashi is too innocent. Obviously the girl is up to no good!
So when there’s underage drinking in the household, be prepared to wrestle with big bro Asahi.
Are you really satisfied with how you’re living now? – Asahi
Ah…so Hikari’s mystery guy is Shinjo Masaomi (the doctor), who is married with children.
Asahi confronts Shinjo.
This scene is idk..kinda abrupt haha I think he’s frustrated with everything, his life, the fact that his only little sister is in love with a married guy and obviously the way he and Azusa broke up. So what’s the best way to release some steam?
Wrong choice of opponent though.
Nice kick though
He finally can sing the 2nd verse of the song.
“I have a request. Will you give birth to my kid? Please marry me.” – Asahi
Ahahha so Eita’s character looks to be quite a troublesome one to handle.
Let’s see, I think the premier is okay. It’s not mind blowing. I’m not expecting epic stuffs but there’s definitely a level of quality I’m looking forward to with this strong cast. Now, the question. Did Tsumabuki Satoshi deliver? My honest feelings? I think he did quite well especially as the caring oldest brother who thinks of his siblings’ well being and such. The only downside is probably the nature of his character, I’m talking about the parts where he tends to over-act especially when interacting with his siblings. I really have some problem adapting to that. When they’re talking noisily in the house, at times, I felt like skipping all the talk. *Yes, maybe because it’s a bit dialogue heavy and I’m not used to this kind of interaction. Perhaps with subtitles, I will watch again for even better understanding. If anything, his last fight scene is commendable (although I couldn’t help but still think Eita would’ve done it so much better, forgive me, I’m Eita bias).
My favorite scenes though were the more serious ones – Azusa telling Asashi she’s pregnant, their argument, Asashi inspecting Hikari’s phone, confronting the doc. As for humor, Tadashi’s scenes with Kazumi is quite hilarious. I just laugh at his innocence but also wondering what exactly is Kazumi thinking.
But I think my favorite, favorite scene of all, was the really SHORT one where Eita appeared. Along with Masami’s uh…makeover? I wonder if she really smokes in though. That brief scene left a deep impression, much more than all of the rest. Because, I want to know about his past! He killed somebody? Either way though, I seriously can’t imagine if the writer decides to pair him and Masami’s character up in this. I can’t, I can’t, I can’t! Please, no. I can’t help but be reminded of Last Friends where she had a thing for him >.<
