* The sudden news about Malaysian Airlines MH17 being shot down and so many lives lost, really made it hard to focus on writing reviews/recaps atm. I wanted to update Wakamonotachi ep2 as well but I guess I’ll just wait for subs (which thankfully seems to be incredibly fast). I’m from Malaysia and having 2 aviation disasters in the span of 6 months, I can only hope our country/citizens to stay strong.
Back in episode 2, we discovered that the person we thought was Shingai Hiromi, turned out to be Kazuhiko. The siblings switched places when they were young. Well, to be honest, I admit I was confused with this whole identity crisis lol…I probably wasn’t paying much attention either because I couldn’t really care less about their real identities at this point. Why? Because it doesn’t make a difference to me anymore who the real Hiromi or Kazuhiko is. One of them is dead and we’re now left with a twin. So how will this twin seek revenge? That’s all that matters to me really. I also don’t quite get the reason why they have to give us this extra twist again. It doesn’t make sense or make any difference to me.
Then there’s also Miki’s father who was absent for the most part of her life, suddenly appeared. There’s something suspicious about him, his face was sketched as the Japanese man who was seen together with the terrorists.
The journalist, Nanami is also someone not very trustable at this point. She was seen talking to a man who was later found dead. Although Ryota interrogated her, he couldn’t get anything substantial from her. Tight-lipped.
End of episode 2, Chief Cabinet Secretary Morihara is dead. Someone assassinated him but who? Kuraki remains a suspect because just before Morihara is killed, he demands answers about his wife from him.
Episode 3 – More things are revealed and I can honestly say it is at a good pace. I’m quite happy with how this second season goes so far. Definitely more than the 1st season. Kuraki is on the run but still chasing down those Gurujibuan people to dig more information about Ivan Tyler and his wife. As for Ryota, he finally found that Kazuhiko (who we know is actually Hiromi), is connected with Nanami. In a flashback, we see Nanami being held hostage by the terrorists. During a phone call with a mysterious government official by the name Kuriyama, it seems that person is not taking responsibility for her crew’s fate and refused to negotiate with the terrorists, even though he was the one who asked Nanami to go to there. Kazuhiko was among the terrorists and he saved her then.
Am I the only one who finds it weird and bit off-putting that Kuraki managed to converse in the Gurujibu language? Well, perhaps he learned the language just because of his wife’s case?
Kazuhiko is also not the one who killed people using the ice pick. So someone is copying Hiromi’s method.
Higashi, evil you can say. He knows what he’s doing and sticks to what he believes in. Plus, he has the knack for understanding people and hits the right spots where it hurts most. For example, he managed to find Kazuhiko and guessed correctly that Kazuhiko’s reason in returning to Japan is not for revenge. Instead, it is for atonement because he felt he is to blame for how Hiromi turned out.
After Hiromi (I think I’ll stick with their real identity now) finds out that some sick culprits are copying Kazuhiko’s killing method, this prompts him to dress up like Kazuhiko. So we get a Hiromi revival.
We’ll see how Hiromi chases after the real bad guy behind all these.
As for my thoughts, I’m liking what they’re giving us so far in Season 2. The pacing is much better and flows more fluidly than before. We’re also constantly getting more action too.
