I’m not sure whether I’ll cover this show completely for this season yet, I’m currently in the process of trying first eps of these dramas and pick a few to review. For now, I’m certainly covering MOZU season 2 and Wakamonotachi. I’ll probably pick another 2 shows depending on how much I love them and time that I have.
So this is just a brief first impression for Zero no Shinjitsu, starring quite a lot of actors/actresses. The main character is played by none other than Emi Takei, who seems to be one of the most common young actresses to land roles here and there almost every other season. She’s played tons of characters. The last one was as a young detective in Senryokugai Sosakan. Here, she plays a young genius medical examiner who has some social issues and eccentric.
What’s with Japan and their eccentric characters? Still it’s exactly the reason why we love these dramas don’t we? Those forensic ones, medical and detective.
She gets her first case when a construction worker falls to his death. Everyone thinks it’s an accident but the man’s wife is determined to do an autopsy to find the truth.
As expected, everyone’s having problem with the new rookie. She doesn’t listen to anyone nor respect her superiors. An excuse they made up for her is that she has lived in the US for 10 years, hence she doesn’t know or use polite speech.
Despite causing much trouble to her seniors, she works throughout the night and gets immersed in the job, for only one purpose – to find the truth.
Apparently, she has been visiting this fellow below for 168 times. She’s been chasing after the truth behind her mother’s death and this guy knows the truth.
Not bad for another one of those forensic medical dramas. I quite like the balance of comedy and medical facts. I don’t know how accurate those medical terms and causes they were using but normally, I just watch and take in as they are, without thinking too deep into it. As for the characters, there’s a clear border between the male and female in the office. I actually like the comedy whenever the guy senseis get dumbfounded by her antics and gossip behind the females’ back during meal time. I also like the old guy who plays the assistant, he’s very friendly and tries to strike conversations with Mao, now if only Mao would at least reply something to him lol…
I’m still looking forward to the day when we’ll ever see Emi Takei cut off her long hair for a character. If my memory serves me correctly, I have never seen her with shorter hair before. Of course, she looks pretty with long hair, it has probably become her signature image. I just thought it might be nice for a drastic change? I have yet to be truly amazed by her talents. I won’t go as much to say she’s overrated, she can act but the roles haven’t been really very different from each other that I can’t determine just how well her acting skills are until she takes on diverse or difficult roles.
