MOZU season 2 was no doubt slightly better than Season 1 and I anticipated a lot judging from the faster plot development and addition of new characters. However, the finale was underwhelming and left me thinking what have I wasted my time watching this show for?
Please tell me I’m not the only one out there who was utterly disappointed by the truth revealed by Ivan Tyler about Kuraki’s wife, Chihiro. Don’t even get me started by how fake that submarine was in the middle of that snowy island.
The entire conversation between Kuraki and Ivan Tyler was just boring as heck! The truth? Even worse. So fine, Chihiro wanted to protect Kuraki and she was used in the entire scheme and let go alive just so the Japanese government could develop a fake story about the GLARKE Operation which actually did not happen at all. The operation wasn’t to recapture the surveillance system but to capture Ivan Tyler. If she leaked anything out, Kuraki would be killed. So we’re made to believe that she went nuts because of the pressure? Sorry, I just couldn’t buy that.
I can’t determine which the worst truth was really. Kuraki finding out that Chihiro loved him so much that she suffered the entire thing herself, drove herself crazy and probably killed their daughter OR Miki finding out that her beloved father betrayed Japan and became a Soviet terrorist. I’m not even slightly moved by the truths! Like, I ended up indifferent about it. I actually thought Miki’s father being Ivan Tyler was kinda dumb.
The only ones I’m here for are Shingai (somebody just give him Best Supporting Actor already!), Higashi (guy’s probably psychopath but that’s what makes him worth watching for), Ryota (best cop in town, best dad in town) and Aoi Yu (unconventional badass journalist).
Man I just feel sorry for Maki Yoko in this show. All the more for Hidetoshi Nishijima. Both of which are great actors but the characters do not do them justice. I find nothing to like about Miki or Kuraki. I’m even more annoyed by the fact that Kuraki was always seen lighting up in almost EVERY SINGLE SCENE. Even if he won’t die in chasing after the truth, guy probably would die from lung cancer. Yes, Miki finally lit up and I am not amused.
The truths were not worth watching the entire show for.
