Another one of those tear-jerking episodes of Wakamonotachi. This show has a sneaky way of tugging at your hearts. The episode centered on Hikari who was unsure of her own future, especially her relationship with a married Shinjo. That scene when Asa-nii asked whether she was alright, then she burst into tears while laughing it off. That was THE moment when we viewers, came into realization that despite Hikari having the most steady job amongst the siblings, highest qualification too, she was vulnerable just like any other human.
The topic of the episode was about being mothers/parents and we are provoked to think about premature children. Will you give birth to a premature baby knowing that he/she will have high chances of being susceptible to cold, diseases and a handicap? Or will you abort the child, convincing yourself that it is for the best, both the parents as well as for the child?
I have no answer to that. I’m not a mother myself and I wouldn’t know how a mother will feel. So there’s really no right answer in my opinion. There were also inconsistency in Hikari’s character. For example, in the beginning, she was against giving up on premature babies. However, in this episode, when she saw a mentally exhausted mother of a patient at work, she reconsidered her stand about the issue. At home, she warned her brother, Asa-nii that taking care of premature babies are not as easy as they think. And then, in the end, when the mother was thinking of throwing her baby into the incinerator (this was quite sick and sad), Hikari put herself out there and showed her vulnerability as she tried to prevent the mother from doing so (with Asa-nii watching from behind). That was friggin sad.
Back to Asa-nii, from the bleeding in the previous episode, the doctor told him that Azusa might have to give birth to the child earlier than expected – premature child birth. This prompted Azusa to consider about the matter deeply, because Asa-nii had yet to find any job. Just when she thought of giving up, that guy Asa-nii wrestled with in the first episode appeared out of nowhere. Well, miracles do happen when you least expected it. He offered Asa-nii a job as a guard at their society.
The sweetest and cutest couple in the show.
I have reserved feelings towards Shinjo. Guy had never shown or done anything for Hikari so far and I’m questioning myself why is she still hanging on to him? This scene totally changed my perception. I think taking the effort to reunite Hikari with her old friend was really sweet, even though he had only heard about it once from Hikari.
Who posted the picture to Shinjo’s wife?!
Sato? Or that jealous doctor where Hikari works?
Not that I’m shocked really because they obviously could not hide it forever.
Gah! I am trying to ignore this scene ever happened. No, they didn’t kiss, because girl claimed she wouldn’t be easy prey.
As much as I’m not exactly fond of Nagasawa Masami’s acting chops, her character in this show hasn’t annoyed me so far. In fact, I thought she was doing quite well, but I’m still not very convinced.
*I need to cleanse my mind off all their scenes back in Last Friends
If you count the females in this show, it doesn’t quite equal the guys right? So, someone’s bound to stay single unless they bring in an unexpected character again somewhere in the future.
Haru obviously had begun to develop feelings for the girl who tried to cheat his youngest brother. But he had to give way to him since he asked her first. Kasumi seemed to like Haru though. Someone’s gonna end up heartbroken.
Gasps! Lisa Loeb’s song in the next episode! I absolutely loved her song, Stay! Ok, excited now.
