This was such a good payback episode! So you see, Nozomi gave her financial aid application to Naruse, which was something I still couldn’t accept but I guess when you have such a strong feeling to save someone else, it’s something you do subconsciously. Anyways, Nozomi was stuck with no financial aid while Naruse got his scholarship. Naruse had a ticket out of the island now while Nozomi was back to square one. Her mother had briefly shown positive signs of wanting to work and be independent but relapsed when she found out Nozomi had been applying for financial aids and looking into studying elsewhere. It was also evident with the lack of communication between Nozomi and Naruse that because of the arson investigation, they had to stop contacting each other. Takano, the policeman was still poking into the arson and trying to dig more from Naruse. But without solid proof, he couldn’t proceed any further into the case. I do sympathize Takano because his wife suffered from the fire and couldn’t speak anymore.
One day, Naruse bought a ticket out of the island and slipped it inside Nozomi’s book. Upon finding it, her spirit was lifted and despite being locked inside her room by her mother, she used the windows to escape and went to find her father.
I did say this was a payback episode. And I’m really really glad Nozomi finally confronted her father in a clever way. It was ingenious! Exposing how he abandoned her family for another woman and thinking education is not important to achieve success. Okay, well, education is not everything but it’s definitely a first step if you want a better life, no? Nozomi purposely knelt down in front of him because then her father would feel ashamed for not allowing his daughter to study. I was actually watching this episode in Tokyo last week and I was literally pumping fists in the air. Such triumphant feeling!
Finally the day had come. They graduated and Nozomi was accepted into university in Tokyo. You can say in some ways she’s being selfish for abandoning her mother considering how their father treated them, but I don’t disagree with her actions. It’s something that has to be done for a better life. If only her mother can see through that and be happy for her, I think there shouldn’t be any problem if she would leave the island and stay in Tokyo with Nozomi once she settled down.
Fast forward to present time, Nozomi found herself living with another two people at Nobara Apartment. Ando and Masato who were at the crime scene 10 years ago. So now we know how they met each other. Masato had something suspicious about him in my personal opinion. He seemed to be hiding a secret and from his occasional glances to the high-rise apartment (which ended up being the murder scene), I’m not going to trust him fully yet. He came up with a plan to save Nobara Apartment form being sold off. So this adds another complication to just who or what the hell is N?
For all we know, each of them has different purpose or different Ns but this is building up to a more interesting mystery. I’m definitely more than intrigued to find the truth.
We also know Ando has feelings for Nozomi and had wanted to propose to her. Well, I’m pretty sure Nozomi only has one person in her heart and that is Naruse. So all the best Ando! My favorite pairing though will always be Nozomi – Naruse.
Speaking of Naruse, he got a call from Masato and from the looks of it, seems like they have issues to be settled.
More scenes were revealed at the murder scene. So somebody, I think the dead husband, Noguchi was beating Masato up (maybe because he found out about his wife’s adultery with Masato) and we saw Masato trying desperately to escape but couldn’t. Nozomi was in the background watching in horror.
Then it skipped to the aftermath when Naruse appeared telling Nozomi “It’s alright.”
Damn, the suspense!
