From the poster of this show, you should notice how many characters there are and it’s true. The whole of first episode is meant to introduce this whole bunch of people to you. It’s a lot messier than I thought it’d be. Although I’m intrigued about some of them, there are a lot more that I personally do not care for at all. I think confusion is an understatement to describe my impression when I was watching the pilot.
Yoko Maki is an actress I like and I do think she’s belongs to the better than your average actress. However, because I’m too used to watching her playing cool/calm roles before this, her super energetic character kind of caught me off guard here. And to be honest, I don’t quite like her outfit for this show. I believe there are other shirts or blouses that fit her no? She needs a better stylist. I half expected her to change from a cheerful energetic person to a moody/hell bent on revenge persona after she came back from the police station. I mean, how could you not expect that after seeing this shot???
Now onto the other side characters, Fumi Nikaido playing a normal average role is a fresh breath of air because I’ve seen too much of her eccentric ones. But I do like how she still gave it a bit of an accent and brush of her own identity.
Who else is worth mentioning? The Chef who hates human. Yes, played by Matsuoka Mayu, this is the first time I’m seeing her act and while she doesn’t do anything much other than cook that dish in the final scene, it was hilarious to see her interact with them using the phone with pre-recorded voices.
Honorary mention to Ken Yasuda though for cross-dressing as a woman and a fine one at that. I seriously give props to him for being able to act with such refined stature and elegance. Every single body language of his is great.
The ‘nude apology’ scene at the company was too dramatic and exaggerated to the point of me being quite disgusted. I didn’t think that was even necessary to set the revenge plot. There should be another way no? The ensuing ‘ninja slashing’ scene was random and it was supposed to be sad but I laughed instead.
