Tantei no Tantei ep4 [review] Payback time!

If you read my previous post, I was slightly disappointed with the inconsistency and plot holes in ep 2-3 (or at least what I think personally). Still, I haven’t given up on this drama because I’m sure it has more to offer.

Episode 4 presented the much awaited redemption. I honestly enjoyed this episode more than previous. Even if Sasaki wasn’t kicking as much ass here (she did beat the hell out of Abiru XD), her actions were more logical and harder to find fault with. Another major factor is the fast pacing. I didn’t expect it to fast forward a year already!

Before that, let’s recap briefly what went down in this episode.

After both Sasaki and Kotoha were assaulted in the trap set by Abiru, Sasaki managed to escape and saved both of them. Sasaki then took revenge on Abiru by exposing his little plan to boost his company’s name with the fake kidnapping.

Needless to say, I was practically cheering for her the moment she appeared in front of him and the other police, then hit the forensic analyst. Yes! Payback!

I didn’t expect Abiru to be taken down so fast to be honest. After he was caught, things went quiet a little and Sasaki continued working on her own as Kotoha recuperated.

One year later, Kotoha is now all healed. It’s a bit hard to believe she actually took one whole year to recuperate…over a stabbed leg. I’d think maybe 6 months is enough…but anyways, it’s not like she’d be of any help for Sasaki.

Sasaki is still continuing her search for Death God, the detective who gave information to her sister’s stalker. A case turned up during her search which revealed a stalker who actually hires detectives to find girls he lied about being his little sister.

Sasaki, you like to torture your prey! haha

So Sasaki deliberately used drugs and the enzymes in natto to inflict more pain and blood loss on the bad guy. I was pretty sure he wouldn’t have survived this fall plus the huge amount of blood loss but afterwards, the police said he was unconscious and seriously injured. So he’s not dead yet.

The thing is, if he’s dead…then doesn’t that make Sasaki a murderer?

Tantei no Tantei ep04 (848x480 x264).mp4_snapshot_38.49_[2015.08.07_20.22.44]WHAT?

I want to know what she sprayed on herself in order not to be detected by the security camera!

Kotoha’s sister and bro-in law actually *probably* forced Sasaki to apologize etc when she came to visit. Sick family.

In the meantime, Sasaki found a similar investigation report at the creepy stalker’s house, meaning he probably used that particular detective’s service as well.

I still can’t get over the fact that Abiru’s part is over already! Like…I was expecting him to last longer and play more games with Sasaki but I guess his role is shortlived. Not that it’s a bad thing. The show needs to move on to bigger things.

    • I think my hopes were restored even if slightly after watching ep4 because the plot holes didn’t seem too absurd (although one can always question about that ‘heating laptop’s motherboard in microwave scene’) and Sasaki is now more composed and matured. I’m still unsure whether Keiko Kitagawa is the right choice to play this tough detective role, at times, she’s fine but there were moments when she faltered too. But I think one of the most important factors now is whether or not viewers empathize her enough to cheer for her and follow her till the end. That part is still a bit on the grey area for me.

      • I thought she did a pretty good job, I’m guessing she’s trying to humanise her character a bit so sometimes it comes off odd. Like have two characters in one. Without it, Sasaki is too one tone.

The video cam at the end with Sasaki kneeling took me by surprise, they seem so wicked, laughing and having fun while doing something bad to Sasaki. That family is off.

But then I feel there is more to the story with Kotoha too. She seemed so innocent one moment then the next she feels like she’s hiding something. Maybe they are a family of serial killers.

I’m interested in what Sasaki’s boss and co-worker is hiding from her. There was obviously something there that the boss doesn’t want her to know. I don’t think he is the Death God but he must be tied to something else that would affect her.

I am eagerly anticipating the Death God’s reveal, would he be someone new down the line or was he there from the start?

I also can’t tell if they’re trying to make a romance out of Sasaki and her male co-worker (the cute nice one) or her and the cop. I think her and the cop is not going to be romantic but maybe some empathy there. The male co-worker could be the Death God she’s looking for.
