Kekkonshiki no Zenjitsu ni ep1 [first impression]

Judging from the synopsis alone, looks like it’s going to be a heavy drama. Karina returns with a character that we know probably won’t have a happy ending. Hitomi (Karina) finds out that she has brain tumor and in 3 months, she’s getting married to Sonoda (Ryohei Suzuki). Things get more complicated when her estranged mother who she thought is dead appeared suddenly.

Her mother, Kanako left her when she was 3 years old and her father lied to her that she’s dead. Kanako, under the nickname, Rika-chan has been chatting with Hitomi for quite a while on the net and after Hitomi is diagnosed, she tells Rika-chan about her illness. Hence, her mother comes back to spend time with her.

It’s been a while since I last saw Karina on-screen (must be that scandal that caused her short hiatus). She looks aged in this drama. Not sure whether it’s for her role who’s supposed to be sick anyway or the stress. On the contrary, it’s good to see Ryohei who shed off weight for his role in the amazing Tenno no Ryoriban has gone back to his normal appearance.

Hitomi finally tells her fiance about her brain tumor. Her doctor says it’s at a position where surgery is difficult. She doesn’t know how long she still has.

I think so far, I really like the character Kanako, Hitomi’s mother. She’s not a good mother for leaving her behind when she was little, but at least, she comes back after all these years. Plus, she’s going to play a vital role to make Hitomi face the reality and think more positively. Her actions are mostly unexpected so that’s something I like. Normally, nobody would jump from the bridge right?

By the way, the theme song Ashitairo by Yasude Rei is nice. Very fitting.
First episode is quite good but this is perhaps the heaviest drama this season so I need to find the right mood to watch this.
