*** DON’T WORRY ABOUT THE PREVIOUS POST’s SPOILER LOL
THE FINALE IS ALMOST 90% DIFFERENT FROM THE MANGA ANYWAY SO OTHER THAN SOME LINES, YOU ARE NOT SPOILED MUCH YET (those of you who couldn’t resist and read that post anyway XD)
** I’ve not been doing a lot of recaps for this show but I think the finale deserves it. Since I’ve read the manga, the shock factor doesn’t really work on me anymore as I’m basically just watching the live-action of the manga but the finale doesn’t follow the original material so most of it is new to me.
To be honest, I don’t even know where to start lol…so many things to say! It’s a pretty simple finale (depending on how you look at it I guess) but the identity changes can be quite confusing for some. I don’t even know which names to use now lmao
But one thing for sure.
WE NEED MORE EVIL YUKI !!!
(Well…technically Sachi in Yuki’s face or rather…her original face, seriously this can get quite confusing.)
Still why do I feel like I’m watching Satomi VS Yuki in this finale? LOL
What we know from previous episode:
The current Tachibana Kara is actually Towada Sachi who has killed the real Tachibana Kara and took over her identity. So real Tachibana Kara is dead whose body is still not found. So I shall refer to the current Tachibana Kara as Sachi-Kara.
Speculations prior to the finale:
Some has speculated that Inokuma Yuki is already killed by Sachi-Kara and during that one month long captivity, she used Tsukimoto to do cosmetic surgery for her to become Yuki. So she has now become Sachi-Yuki. If that’s the case, then the Yuki Satomi saved from the basement is actually Sachi. But what about that woman who looks like Sachi-Kara with the hatchet? She’s most probably the boxer-girl who wants to become Tachibana Kara. For some reason, she’s probably brainwashed by her into doing extreme things like….killing a cop. Stretching it a bit too much, no?
Let’s pick up from where we ended in the previous episode.
Satomi and Yuki pass out in the villa together with a wounded Sachi-Kara. Later when the cops arrive, they see the villa on fire and find both Satomi and Yuki unconscious just outside the villa. So they are safe.
Satomi wakes up and thinks he saw Sachi-Kara trying to insert something into his tube in the hospital but realizes it’s just a dream.
Dr. Kuramoto tells him that Yuki’s alive much to his relief.
Later he meets both Chief Ando and Hayami who tells him Yuki’s statement. She told them that Kara said so herself that she was jealous of his relationship with Yuki so she captured Yuki. (Alert #1)
When he visits Yuki in her room, he sees both Ai and Rena who appear to be safe as well.
So things seem to have calmed down and over but when Satomi embraces Yuki and kisses her, he realizes something is amiss (Alert #2)
When Yuki asks him what is the matter, he makes an excuse that his injuries hurt and leaves abruptly.
The moment I look at this Yuki though, she already gives a very different vibe from the usual Yuki we know. She’s way too calm! The Yuki we know would’ve hugged Satomi immediately and cried in relief etc…
As he walks through the hallway, he flashes back to the basement scene when he mouth-fed Yuki the water. He didn’t realize it that time but something is off now. He recalls the girl who he interviewed back at the countryside who told him, the current Sachi-Kara feels more like Towada Sachi. She also told him about the rumors circulating around Sachi – killing animals and maybe even her own father.
Satomi reasons that Towada Sachi sounds more like a serial murderer than Tachibana Kara. He also thinks maybe Tsukimoto is still alive and cooperates with Sachi-Kara who’s impersonating Yuki but he shrugs it off, thinking that’s impossible.
However, Yuki’s mother also feels something is off. She says Yuki’s been taking a lot of painkillers. But she thinks it might be caused by the 1-month long captivity that Yuki’s somewhat different now.
Satomi asks Yuki’s mother to get a hair sample from Yuki and see if it matches the hair he takes from his apartment. The results come out positive and Satomi is relieved.
However, Yuki’s mother tells him that Yuki is eating octopus (Alert #3) Remember Yuki is scared of octopus a lot as emphasized several times before? Her mother wonders if her allergy towards octopus is healed after the shock. So Satomi’s suspicion grows bigger that the current Yuki is not the real Yuki but in fact, Tachibana Kara.
So Satomi plants a GPS device in a keychain and gives the key for his apartment to Yuki.
As Satomi checks to see whether his GPS device is working, Yuki looks down from the window at him with a cold face.
Satomi warns Yuki’s mother that the current Yuki might be a fake and Tachibana Kara has exchanged identity with her.
He goes to the nursery home where Towada Sachi’s mother is and finds her husband was a violent drunk and she suffered domestic violence. Her daughter, Sachi has never come to see her once. Then, the nurse tells him maybe that’s because Sachi isn’t blood-related anyway.
Satomi heads to the ward to have a look at Towada Sachi’s family register and finds that she is indeed an adopted child. He remembers Yuki told him before that she is adopted too.
So he hurries to the Sachi’s high school to see her real face just to be sure. Lol it’s just like seeing an expressionless Inokuma Yuki. So Sachi is actually Yuki’s twin sister!
At this point, it’s almost certain that this current Yuki is a fake and my oh my…an evil Sachi in Inokuma Yuki’s face is just perfect 😄
Well technically Sachi just changed her face back to her original form.
We then move to Sachi-Yuki’s scene in the hospital. She’s watching her phone and apparently, she plants a GPS device on Satomi too when she hugged him. She realizes that Satomi is at her former high school and that he must have caught on something.
So she makes a move as we are shown glimpses of the past during the high school and bridge scenes.
The freak original Tachibana Kara called back in high school.
Satomi calls Chitose-senpai to check whether Yuki has a twin sister. He heads to the riverbank under the bridge to find evidence that the real Tachibana Kara is dead. He begins digging where the stones are left and uncovers bones with a pair of glasses.
Then, when he checks his phone to see where Sachi-Yuki is, it shows the same location as him.
It’s kinda scary but amusing at the same time to watch Sachi in her original face, who looks just like Yuki doing evil stuffs and this is just the beginning because more to come!
Very chilling indeed…so much so that it almost felt like watching Satomi VS Yuki now LOL
We just have to remind ourselves that she’s not the real Yuki 😄
What are you doing, Satomi-kun?
You’re Towada Sachi, right?
What are you talking about, Satomi-kun? Tachibana Kara’s dead. We were there together right?
Where is Yuki?
What are you talking about, Satomi-kun? I’m here, right? Look properly.
I’m Inokuma Yuki.
Sachi-Yuki then tries to stab Satomi from behind but he grabs her before she can do it.
Sachi-Yuki in Tachibana Kara’s form appears. We’ll be seeing these exchanges every now and then as we switch from fake and real.
They fight for a bit as Satomi asks her repeatedly where Yuki is but Sachi-Yuki ignores the question. She then sends a picture to his phone and it shows Yuki lying half buried on the ground. She tells him that Yuki’s already dead long ago.
Satomi becomes enraged and threatens to kill her.
Sachi-Kara taunts him.
There are two kinds of human beings in this world. One who kills on purpose and one who won’t.
I dare you to choose which type of human being you really want to be!
She challenges him to go ahead and kill her but the local cops arrive. Satomi has to flee because now it looks like he is strangling Yuki.
He jumps down the bridge and after the cops leaves with Sachi-Yuki, he comes up and cries thinking Yuki’s already dead and says sorry repeatedly for not being able to save her.
He vows to never forgive Sachi-Yuki.
Sachi-Yuki sees that the GPS tracker she plants on him vanishes so that means he has destroyed the GPS.
Back at the station, the rest receive news that Satomi attempted to kill Yuki much to everyone’s surprise. Chitose says there must be a misunderstanding and reveals that he asked her to check whether Yuki has a twin. She indeed has a twin sister but she doesn’t know that fact.
Chief Ando wants to pursue the case and won’t let it taken over by Gunma prefecture’s police. So they begin moving. He then receives a call from Satomi. They manage to get his location. Satomi tells Chief Ando what he knows including fake Tachibana Kara is still alive and the real Tachibana Kara is dead. She is now impersonating Yuki. He’s going to get conclusive evidence himself. Chief Ando asks whether Yuki’s safe or not but Satomi hung up.
Chitose goes to Yuki’s house and tells her parents about the current situation and wishes to take Yuki under custody just to be sure but her father refuses and says he will protect Yuki…until the mother tells him about the changes she observed. Sachi-Yuki on the other hand is shown taking painkillers and begins showing some kind of symptoms like side-effects.
That night, she’s on her way to Tsukimoto’s mansion and Satomi’s following her. Halfway, he appears on a bike and attempts to kill her but failed.
Evil Sachi-Yuki is
That lame CG though LOL
Anyways, Satomi follows her to Tsukimoto’s mansion and Sachi-Yuki uncuffs Tsukimoto. She orders him to administer drugs to her immediately.
She asks Tsukimoto about the dark complexion appearing on her forehead.
Tsukimoto says the skin’s probably dying due to multiple cosmetic surgeries she forces on herself.
Satomi suddenly appears and Sachi-Yuki threatens to kill Tsukimoto.
Satomi didn’t care and moved forward, Sachi-Yuki fought with Satomi.
Sachi-Yuki puts up quite a fight and disappears into a hidden room. When Satomi walks over, Yuki is suddenly flung to him and he almost killed her but realizes it’s the real Yuki.
A battered and weak Yuki. Sachi-Yuki kicks Satomi aside and points a gun at him. She tells Yuki she’ll kill him in front of her but Yuki grabs the gun and Satomi quickly shoves it aside.
They dive down the stairs in the struggle and Sachi-Yuki takes the form of Tachibana Kara again in this sequence.
They fight for a bit and she manages to grab the gun and almost killed Yuki but Satomi quickly stands in front of Yuki to block her.
Satomi in his protective mode is super kakkoii that I can almost forgive the fact that they gave Yuki’s lines to him.
“A person becomes weak when he has something to protect. Satomi, after killing you, I will kill Inokuma too. Then, I shall obtain the ‘sense of justice’ and become Inokuma completely.” – Sachi-Yuki
“You want Yuki’s sense of justice? A person who doesn’t even think what she can do for others will never obtain ‘sense of justice’. – Satomi
“Doing something for the sake of others? Is that sense of justice? That sounds like a boring life. Then what is the fun in living? I have more freedom, don’t I?” – Sachi-Yuki
“Kara-san, living for yourself is lifeless.” – Yuki
“Is there anything else you want to say? It’s a shame it’s ending, right?”– Sachi-Yuki
It’s never going to end. You still don’t understand a single thing. The person you want to kill the most if you, yourself. You want to erase yourself but you can’t. You keep doing cosmetic surgeries to kill yourself. You think after taking Yuki’s face, you can live as Yuki. But that is a huge mistake.– Satomi
What do you understand? Someone like you….DIE!!! – Sachi-Yuki
She fires at Satomi but luckily, Yuki pushes him from behind and it strikes his arm instead. Despite taking a bullet, he still quickly charges at Sachi-Yuki and disarms her.
Team Satomi-Yuki finally at work here lmao
I half expected Yuki to take the bullet for him though.
He pins her down on the floor and contemplates whether to kill her or not.
He fires a shot but not at her. On the floor. Yup…Satomi just can’t kill someone yet. But if Yuki is really dead, he might have done it.
Police arrives and arrests Sachi.
And our lovely couple is finally together safe and sound again.
Trying to imagine Fumino changing into different clothes and doing both scenes in opposite characters 😄
Satomi brings Yuki to visit Sachi’s mother who mistakes her for her daughter.
She apologizes profusely as Yuki pretends to be Sachi after Satomi prompts her.
At the station, Yuki tells Sachi she met her mother who kept apologizing.
“When I was a kid, I heard that I have a twin sister. I’ve been searching for her ever since. When I saw you for the first time, I thought I finally found…myself.” – Sachi tells Yuki.
“You were right.” – Sachi tells Satomi.
They basically explained that the Kara who Chitose and Amamiya met in the previous episode was actually the boxer girl who had changed her face to Tachibana Kara, while Sachi has transformed herself back to her original face.
How the heck does Chibideka get to transfer to First Division and not Satomi???
Anyways, both Yuki and Satomi w are staying in Mobile Unit until their transfers are determined. It isn’t clear whether they get to move to First Division or not, but I think not, however Yuki tells Hayami she’ll catch up very soon.
But for now… yay! We get back our lovely couple hehe!
The finale is quite unexpected though I think some of us had some inkling about certain things. Still, it all remained as theories and predictions until the finale truly unfolded. So am I satisfied with the show overall and how the ended it? Do I like the changes made to the plot? Honestly, I do have some gripes, for example, the addition of Chibideka is sort of unnecessary in my opinion and there are certainly scenes which can just be omitted. I don’t really like how they make Yuki’s character dumber than the original material too and she doesn’t even get to redeem any of her pride as cop in the finale. She probably saves Satomi’s life by knocking him out of harm’s way but geez, not enough. I’d like it better if Yuki plays a more major role like she does in the manga, especially the ending. But let’s face it, Satomi’s the hero and they obviously want to make him shine as the lead and they even let him take lines and scenes which were supposed to be Yuki’s. But anyways, all things considered, at the very least, they showed the author of Siren manga, Yamazaki Sayaka the changes made to the finale and they got a green light to go ahead.
What about the loopholes? In a detective drama, there’s always bound to be some. In the finale, we’re to assume that both Sachi and Yuki have the same physical features which includes height since they’re twins. In reality, Nanao is 172cm and Fumino’s 164cm. Obviously, Nanao is taller and it’s weird thinking how they mask that fact. They simply explained the matter in episode 7 where Yuki mentioned Kara has gotten shorter. Kara explained that she’d always been wearing high heels, that’s why.
But what about vocal tones? Tsukimoto must be one hell of a genius plastic surgeon to be able to make perfect copies. Plus, let’s not forget that they just breezed through during the meeting by saying the boxer girl was brainwashed by Kara. But like I said before, how would a person be so stupid enough to kill another person who has nothing to do with her?
Like…how did she even convince her to kill a cop? Oh wait…Watari was a perfect example of how people can be manipulated. Well, if you’re not that particular about the details, you’ll probably enjoy the show a lot more.
Those gripes aside, I’m okay with how it ended because as long as both Satomi and Yuki are safe and sound, my No.1 wish for the show has been fulfilled because it’d be damn sad if anyone of them died.
Regarding this particular episode, I’m also quite happy to see two versions of Inokuma Yuki. Technically, it’s Sachi and Yuki but anyways, Fumino playing two kinds of characters in the finale has indeed been a very interesting episode to watch. To see two of them in a scene is amusing in itself and not to mention, her fighting sequence with Satomi is not bad too. It’s a good balance to see more Yuki/Sachi in the finale after having little scenes in the previous episode. That said, I can totally see Fumino in a wicked evil role too and her body language as well as vocal tone fit the Sachi-Kara character.
The show has been a turbulent ride. Every week left us wondering what’s going to happen next and Kara’s real intention of pursuing Yuki. Satomi’s protective boyfriend mode is definitely kakkoi but at the same time, we’re frustrated at both him and Yuki’s lack of communication during crucial moments. So yes, the show can be very frustrating to watch but overall, the focus on the villain is refreshing and it not following the usual detective format is nice for a change.
I think Matsuzaka Tori, Kimura Fumino and especially Nanao did a great job in this show. If there’s a Best Villain award, I’d give it to Nanao. She deserves it. Amazing act by her from beginning till the end. Seeing that this is Tori’s first regular drama lead, he did very well too…I can’t stop saying how kakkoi he is, can I? Well he is really kakkoi anyways in here. More lead roles for Tori please in the future. Fumino’s role isn’t major although she’s the key person connecting the dots. She’s basically more like a supporting role which is a bit of a shame, despite being put as main lead. Still, I think performance-wise, she got to shine in the finale playing two characters. That switch between good and evil was very amusing. In fact, for some reason, she almost stole the show from Nanao in the finale itself because of the transitions in characters and Nanao didn’t appear as much.
By the way…can they pair up both Tori and Fumino again in the future 😄
My favorite pairing of the season.
