Episode 5 is mostly dedicated to Irie’s wedding which got everyone pumped. Everyone except for Daisuke of course. If he has a choice, he won’t want to have anything to do with it at all. But his father volunteers to walk the bride and his apartment becomes the meeting place to organize the wedding reception. So he basically can’t escape.
Meanwhile, Naruhodo girl is not giving up! She has a heart of steel when it comes to pursuing someone she likes or targeted, in this case, poor Daisuke. He doesn’t have the heart to shoo her off curtly even though he feels she’s annoying. Surprisingly, he lets her join him in gym and mountain biking.
But he insists he doesn’t want to eat the food she prepares for the morning exercise.
Then Kazuya invites Daisuke for a drink which surprises him a little but what harm can a drink do? From the short interaction which initially only happens because the common point between them is Hanako. But Daisuke finds that Kazuya also has fetishes like him, in this case, it’s coffee. So when he says he understands why Daisuke gets annoyed whenever someone messes his precious sanctuary or favorite things, it doesn’t take long for Daisuke to approve of Kazuya. So he starts to wonder why Hanako divorced him.
Kazuya has made it clear he wants to remarry Hanako but he makes sure not to push things. So this work/outing may give some chances for him to rekindle some feelings. Hanako on the other hand is still contemplating. Something’s clearly bugging her which we do not know what yet.
The wedding reception is almost done and everyone’s excited about it but the day before, Irie receives a message from his mother who he has cut ties with, that she got an invitation for the wedding. So this pisses him off because he told his wife clearly that he doesn’t want his mother to attend their wedding. But of course, his wife sends the card anyway so they get into a huge fight the night before the big day. Daisuke and Hanako then have to coerce them both to reconcile.
In this ironic turn of events, Daisuke and Hanako find themselves stuck between a couple who threatens to break up. So a guy who is sure he’s not suited for marriage and a divorcee who doesn’t want to get married again, are trying to get a couple back together XD
They managed to cool things down and both Irie and his wife reconciled. But both Daisuke and Hanako still have to stay up late to prepare the destroyed wedding gifts which Irie threw down from their apartment in his rage earlier.
Daisuke’s father injured his back on the very day he is supposed to walk the bride. So Daisuke has to take over reluctantly.
So I’m still not sure what the deal is with Kota’s mother or what exactly is she doing. What is her position in this whole context. She’s like the lingering shadow who appears once in a while to stir things up a little but doesn’t make quite an impact, yet. Initially, I’m thinking Yozo is not actually married to her because there’s not even a single hint of romance between them. It’s probably just something on paper so that Kota can have a more stable life instead of wandering aimlessly like what his mother is doing now. So when she appears during the wedding and asks Kota whether he’d like to live with her again (read this: just the two of them) away from Yozo and all, I think she’s starting to have some idea of her own to escape Yozo. Kota of course doesn’t want to because he still wants his mother to fulfill this promise she makes with Yozo (whatever that promise is) and it’s not right for them to just leave everybody when they’re done to so much for him.
Well, in this sense, Kota is more mature than his free spirited mother.
So back to the wedding…
All rosy things aside, the episode ends with a slightly heavy note actually when Hanako reveals to Daisuke about the real reason she got divorced. She has an ectopic pregnancy where the fetus develops in the fallopian tube. They found out too late and her fallopian tube has to be removed. So she can’t be pregnant naturally any longer.
So when Kazuya wishes to get back with her, she’s wondering what she should do. She has never told anyone about this (yes, not even her mother knows, I’m sure) and here she is, telling Daisuke. But I don’t think this is weird in any way at all. You see, she’s right. Daisuke is the type that won’t care (or at least that’s what she thinks so) so it’s easier for her to express her honest feelings to him, even though they’re basically still ‘stranger’ level but there’s already a certain unspoken connection that only both of them understands. Afterall, she just needs to let it off her chest and who better than Daisuke who absorbs anything from people and still indifferent about it.
Except she’s wrong about something. As much as Daisuke’s heart is cold as stone, he has slowly changed from 1st episode. He’s not 100% indifferent about people. He may seem reluctant to do things but he gets them done. So this piece of revelation will start to affect his relationship with Hanako which we further touch on in the next episode.
Daisuke starts to avoid Hanako because for some odd reason, whatever she told him in the previous episode has affected him. He doesn’t quite know how to act around her or what to talk to her about. All their conversations have always been filled with sarcasm, they’re both caustic and critical. That is why they can talk just about anything without worrying about each other’s feelings, that’s their common point.
But this is probably a bit too much for Daisuke to handle. Something so personal and private that he feels he doesn’t deserve to know. They’ve crossed certain boundaries that they’ve always made sure not to cross.
Hanako realizes Daisuke has been avoiding her like a plague and demands to have a proper talk, face to face. Hanako tells him to let it go or accept it lightly because she’s not hoping for sympathy or anything of the sort.
Sasaki has given up on chasing after Hanako because she turns him down curtly. Plus, the ex-husband who is way more handsome and compatible has returned so Sasaki knows he doesn’t stand a chance. But he’s not giving up on finding a partner yet! To be honest, I have to applaud his will in this matter. So he attends a marriage hunting party and someone is actually interested!
Irie voices out his concern to Daisuke that the girl is very young and pretty. He’s probably wondering whether there’s something odd.
On the other hand, Hanako tells Kazuya that she doesn’t want to be reminded of the things she went through last time. So she’s not keen on remarrying him.
She explains that it has been easier for her since she has made up her mind not to marry again.
To be honest, if there’s one common point between Naruhodo girl and Sasaki, it’s their relentless determination!!! They should just both get hooked up.
Lmao doesn’t she realize she’s the only one enjoying the dinner? Daisuke’s response is only made up of “Well…hm…” the entire time!
So the odd thing is…when Naruhodo girl is about to be scolded for making countless mistakes (as usual) by Hanako, she makes a statement that startles Hanako. At first, Hanako tells her to stop running away from work (because she thinks she’s not suited for work) and focuses on romance, thus neglecting the work she’s supposed to do.
Then, Naruhodo girl shoots back that Hanako is the opposite of her. She’s running away from her private life and focuses on her career instead.
See this remark by Hanako alone is enough to explain the kind of relationship between her and Daisuke. They’re frenemies.
After some argument/pep talk from Yozo, Daisuke is again troubled by how he should communicate with Hanako from now on…
And Naruhodo girl just keeps barging in to his life…uninvited.
Who ends up in Hanako’s apartment.
Daisuke meets his ex-girlfriend for some consultation. She says that the person won’t tell such important thing to anyone. However the person chose to tell him and only him.
At Daisuke’s office, looks like Sasaki has been fooled. The girl borrows money from him and while everyone’s trying to convince him that this is becoming odd, Sasaki’s adamant about it. So Daisuke dares him to call the girl to the office and introduce her to everyone.
He then breaks down and cries like a baby. Irie convinces him to call the girl to sort things out.
Kazuya proposes something to Hanako. He asks if she would consider starting over. Not in terms of ex-spouse, ex-husband-wife, but look at him as he is now. They can start dating as colleagues again and see where things go from there.
That night, Daisuke waits for Hanako outside their apartment. He still doesn’t get and couldn’t understand why Hanako tells him such thing. However, he tells her to tell him again if she’s bothered by anything.
Yes! Now can we go on with the sarcasm and all instead of this heavy stuffs?
And looks like it doesn’t take long for them to start bickering again lol
Can never get enough of both Daisuke and Hanako. I don’t want them to end up as a couple but friends who bicker over the smallest things, yes. I want them to maintain that kind of distance and keep us entertained all the way. Not sure whether Hanako will ever start all over with Kazuya but I hope that will not affect anything between her and Daisuke.
Then…here comes yet another problem Daisuke needs to settle, despite his annoyance. Did she just kidnap her own son?
So let’s see what the next episode will bring us. This show still remains interesting and my favorite of the season. It’s just so easy to watch and it’s got some clever lines too despite the light comedy and some serious moments. I never get bored with this.
